Overview

The Bahrain News Agency (BNA), operating under the Ministry of Information Affairs, is Bahrain's official national news wire service, publishing approximately 100 news items every 24 hours. BNA's previous hosting provider had a chronic record of availability failures, poor performance, and security vulnerabilities, presenting a public credibility risk for the national news service. ACME was engaged to execute an urgent migration to AWS.

The Challenge

The migration had to be completed in under two weeks without any service interruption to a publication that runs 24 hours a day. The solution needed to resolve the availability, performance, and security issues of the previous provider while also archiving years of historical content and establishing a cost structure significantly below the incumbent contract.

The Solution

ACME deployed AWS Elastic Beanstalk for managed application hosting, eliminating the infrastructure management overhead that had contributed to previous reliability issues. Amazon CloudFront delivers content globally with low latency, Amazon Glacier archives the full historical news content, and Amazon Shield provides DDoS protection. Amazon RDS handles the database layer with Elastic Load Balancing for traffic distribution. The migration was completed in under two weeks with zero downtime, and BNA's hosting costs dropped by 50%.
